That's how many books are currently checked out at the moment, or rather at 10am! Took down the old calendar and carefully put away the old Sprague blueprints until I can hand them to Mr. B or Mr. C in custodial. Put up the new board with how many books are checked out and how much they all cost! Checked in and out two class sets of math books, barcoded the new teacher math supplement books. Rechecked some To Kill a Mockingbird books that didn't get checked in. Mrs. H found four that were either billed or something else, so I went through the rest and found another two that were improperly checked in. Had a teacher looking at some new resources, so I found the current edition for him (his was 2002) and got some numbers together. Very expensive, but we'll see what happens.

Half Day

Half day but more than half way through all the supplemental math books we got in a couple of weeks ago! We've been stamping them and today Mrs. M finished the stamping and I ran all the barcodes for them (423) and barcoded 300 of them.

It's Not Easy

Had fun today with 'take your kid to work day'. Mrs. L-D brought in her two adorable girls and I mentioned we had a bit of a children's section, so we picked out books for them to look through! So much fun! Just about finished up the Unit 2 of the PoT books, so only Unit 1 to go!

Badminton

I checked on our Site Council activity after I got off work, and no one was there. I sure hope someone showed up, I was late, but still. I think we were supposed to play badminton. Processed in extra Fahrenheit 451 books from another school that is letting us borrow them, worked on the PoT books again today. Checked out quite a few "To Kill a Mockingbird"'s today. Got The Hobbit ready for checkout tomorrow. Had various students coming and going all day - the library was a very busy place today.

Early

Today I came in early since my son had an appointment this afternoon. Mrs. M very sweetly came in and worked my shift. Had a student come in with a book he purchased that was lost so he could buy prom tickets and it was one I had checked in yesterday! He had bought it online and there it was hiding in Ms. S's room all this time! I talked with Mrs. H and we decided to go ahead and buy it from him anyways, it was a great copy in great shape, don't want to let it go! He offered to donate it, but we said, no, he could get something for his prom date with that money. Only have 7 books left on my repair list in various stages so I turned to the innumerable (well, I do have a count somewhere) Principles of Technology books I was working on earlier this year. Found that we'll be getting in Fahrenheit 451 for the rest of the classes which should make our teachers happy so I let them know they were on their way. Processed in three magazines for us. Worked up front with Mrs. H this morning and had some great conversations with our morning aides, who I rarely get to see. Back to sleeping in tomorrow morning, my regular shift!

Summer!

Had some awesome weather this weekend and more today! Maybe winter is over! Checked in three class sets of books today and packed up 5 boxes of surplus books from teachers. Readied another three class sets of books to go out. Processed three magazines for the library and two for teachers. Worked on some more repairs. Now to go enjoy the rest of the warm day!

Goodbye Friend

Today was the memorial service for an old friend that I met at Sprague when I first worked in food service there. Helen Holtmeier was amazing, a true woman of faith who was Christian and you accepted that about her or you just didn't associate with her! I love her and though we haven't been around each other much, I kept in touch through Mrs. H who's sister is married to Helen's son. So Mrs. M came in to work my shift and I came in early to work hers so I could attend the service this afternoon. So I got to open up the library and take care of the kids. Processed in four magazines, did more repairs, boxed up a surplus set of books for a teacher, found that a book we were getting in from another school may not be coming and that I thought we had two teachers to come and get class copies which would have worked, but had a note on the books that two others also wanted copies, so now we have four teachers and only 80 books! Arghh! So, I emailed the teachers to let them know and we'll see what happens Tuesday when the other school decides! Also got in a ton of math supplement books and while I was looking up a price, found that these are also online, so why did someone buy them? I'll have to look into that. Off for the weekend! Huzzah! To the beach!

Sog

Started the day with our inventory tracking meeting. Got to school and worked on repairs. The kids are really getting to me. We tell them not to eat in the computer labs, have a notice on all the monitors, and still they eat and ignore us. *sigh* It gets disheartening. Processed in one teacher magazine and four for the library. Checked out a class set of the Deutsch Aktuell 2 workbooks. Got in a notice that the school we are borrowing Fahrenheit 451 from may not have them to borrow after all, so I notified everyone. We have enough for class sets, but were really hoping to get enough for students to check them out. Had two boys today bring in two books from PE. While they were in class, someone took a trash can, filled it with water in the shower, and dumped their backpacks into it where they soaked for the entire period. The two books were ruined. Falling out of their boards, almost pulped already. I felt so bad for them. Hopefully they will find out who did it and they can pay for the books. Also had our security guard come into the library and pick up two girls who were there without a pass. As they left our security rails beeped as they went through. I asked the one girl if she had a book, she said 'no' but she had her phone out, so Mr. F, held her phone as she walked through and it still beeped, she said all she had in there was her math book, so I asked for her pack and sure enough, there was a library book in there not checked out. So we asked if she still wanted it and she was 'ah, no, I don't read.' and they left with Mr. F. One book saved! Mrs. H said "Well done!"

Top 40

Just a bit of a tribute to Dick Clark who passed away today. A true music icon that brought so much music into main stream America. Processed in eight magazines today for the library. Worked on the inventory tracking program and sent my notes to one of the programmers when I was done. Looked over a brochure on new young adult books and highlighted the ones I thought may be appropriate for the library and gave it to Mrs. H. Wrote up my 'Self Evaluation' for reviews coming up and Mrs. H gave me her write up for my work this last year. Checked in some Wild Children and checked out a whole class set of Witness. Did one or two repairs, but will tackle more tomorrow!

Mid-Life

One of our teachers had a mid-life crisis and dealt with it in inappropriate ways, so sad. But life at school will go on. Spent most of the day again in repairs and processed in four teacher magazines before I left today and will finish up the library magazines tomorrow.

Three Days

Friday the 13th - so another three day weekend coming up with a furlough day on Monday. More repairs today. Checked in three class sets of Prentice Hall Gold books from freshmen and checked out To Kill a Mockingbird. I'm down to just about a stack and a half of repair books from three shelf fulls. I feel so good about that!

Thursday

Today I had my inventory tracking meeting and it went well, then off to school. Spent another day working on repairs and cleaning off shelves. Mrs. H was gone to a meeting in the afternoon for a bit so I actually worked up at the front for a bit and it was fun! Processed in one teacher magazine and 6 for the library as well.

Frankenstein

Almost the last thing I did today was check out a class set of Frankenstein to Mr. S - I also let him know that we had a wonderful annotated copy on the library shelves and he checked that out as well. Slogged through another day of repairs - down to 35 out of 70. Processed in one magazine for the library.

2 in One

Had two meetings today, our regular classified staff meeting and then a site council meeting. In between I worked on, yes, you guessed it, more repairs :) Got a quote for books lined up for Mrs. R and got all her paperwork ready for that. Had a call from another librarian about sending books back and forth (her bookkeeper told everyone in a meeting that all the bookkeepers were no longer supposed to do that - my bookkeeper had never heard of it.)

Grinding

Basically just ground out repairs today. Lots of The Great Gatsby and then onto a plethora of math books. Called in to Follett to see if they would match a price on some books for one of our science teachers. Got in some math books and had a student start to stamp them. Checked in some books that a student tossed over a fence in the homes nearby. One was all right, but the other we'll have to bill for.

Good Friday

Went to my meeting this morning with the Inventory Tracking group and went to work. Mostly did repairs today. The short day goes by even faster when you have a meeting to go to!

Where Am I?

Must admit I felt quite the dweeb today! I headed down to Technology for a meeting and it turned out that it's for next Thursday. Luckily, it turned out for the best since Mr. Cox, our head of Library Media Services was there for a meeting with Mr. Bradfield and they were working on the library kiosk for the middle and high schools and pulled me into their meeting to help out - so not a total waste of my time! Spent most of the rest of the day working on repairs and had a good couple of stacks drying and setting by the time I left today.

Blueprints

I did get my blueprints for my bulletin board and they are awesome! I added in all the little stuffs and it turned out fabulous! Spent the day working on books and I think I got all my lastest stash repaired and they'll go back to their shelf tomorrow. Worked with a lot of kids today on various things since Mrs. H wasn't in. Another great day in the library!

Bond Work

Did a lot of repairs today and worked on my new bulletin board. We got an update on the bond construction work countdown, so my board is on construction! We have some fabulous books, so it should be nice. Our head custodian is even going to lend me some old Sprague blueprints to use! I am super excited about that! Checked in and out books, put money in print accounts. We got in three boxes of new books so I unloaded those and put them on a cart for Mrs. M to check in. Life in the library is good!

Back from Break

Came back from break today. Processed in five teacher magazines and ten for the library. I also worked on the new inventory system and communicated with the group that at first I couldn't add a new location. Then when they cleared me for that, I couldn't add equipment to that location. So they will have to work on that. I also did a repair on our book of Kells that was losing a couple of pages. covered a book and checked out quite a few of The Great Gatsby. Took down the old bulletin board and asked if I could use some of the blueprints for the school for my new bulletin board.
