Back April 1st

A very busy last day before Spring Break. I got in and got the library up and running then headed over to LMSS to pick up our very own 3D printer for our school! That made me supremely happy to get that for our school. I spent the rest of the day selling from the book fair and working on the Everybody books I withdrew to get them ready for our Instructional Coach. So glad she is using them! Started packing up the book fair about 5pm. I got all the table display books in their boxes but left the boxes out and lids open while I packed them. I let our shoppers know we were still open, but they were more than welcome to dig through the boxes. We made just short of $1,500 and usually our spring fair is less than the fall one. I did have a few students come in after I had packed up stuff and I let them know they could buy off the online fair. I brought in all the signs that were outside. Did some laminating for a teacher. A very long day, looking forward to spring break!

Camouflage Day

I love that I got to blend in with my library today for Camo/Neon day. It was fun. I had our computer teacher ask again for a 3D printer and when I asked our office, they called and said they would just give one to the Leslie Library! I was so excited! At least two of our teachers are going to really get some great use out of it since it will be there all the time! I will go and pick it up tomorrow! That was a great score for our school! I got all the 398.2 books ready for our Instructional Coach and they are now all sitting on a shelf in the back until she is ready for them. I started working on the Everybody books next and am getting those ready. Sprague wants the books that the teachers don’t want or use so that makes me very happy they are going to new homes! I had laminating to do and had to change the laminating film that went wonky. Argh! I don’t like having to do that, especially when it goes wrong. One side threaded through just fine, but the bottom film did not! We did have students all day, then after we stayed for conferences. So it was a long day, 7:30am to 7:15pm! Same thing tomorrow then we don’t come back until April 1. Lots of book fair business as well, though not sure if we’ll make our goal. We’ll see tomorrow!

Old Fables

Today of course was the book fair again, didn’t do very much but I had two classes come in and they bought a few things. Sold another couple of things throughout the day. Sent off seven Peter and the Starcatcher books to Sprague. Showed our IC the fable and picture books I withdrew and she wants to use them for a PD! I’m so excited that they will get used! So I worked on those in between regular day stuff. Marking out all the barcodes and stamps and putting DISCARD stamps on them. Talked with our custodian about getting pallets for the other withdrawn books and they don’t have any that we can use. I’ll have to call Garten after break and see if they might deliver some for me to load up. A good day, but the long day comes tomorrow. 7:30am - 7:15pm. Regular student day and then conference time. Gearing up for the long haul!

Again!

I think about posting at night, then I don't I guess! Pretty easy day, sold some book fair items. Helped students here and there. Got back about 20 copies of Frightful's  Mountain a teacher had borrowed groom all different schools. So I made sure they got all checked in on the ones I could,  made thank you notes for them all along they check in on their end - that will check them back in or take the transfer and 'receive' it back. Then I had to get our manila district mail envelopes and make all those out to send. That took awhile!

Quotes

It was so nice yesterday that I came home and had a bevy out on our deck since my hubby had gotten all our outdoor furniture put out today. It was lovely! Did the book fair. Weeded more books here and there in the 100’s. Had three classes in as well as some groups and individual students to look at the book fair. Had two people from our facilities group come in to talk about putting in a large TV in the library rather than our  computer cart for projecting. I had thought about taking shelves down and hooking up to an old speaker in that wall, but I guess now they put them on carts! Everything just gets mounted on a cart and you can put it anywhere and plug it in and it’s ready to go! More options! So they are going to write up a quote for that.

Thursdays

Worked the book fair and weeded the Everybody books. So hard to get rid of them, but a necessary step. Got rid of about half of what I had. Did some lamination for a teacher. Had two math classes in just to use the tables.

Thought About It

Totally remember thinking about posting last night, but didn’t. Oh my! Got in early to put up signs for the Book Fair and then got all the money ready. Had students in to buy a lot of the day, made about $111! Not too bad for an early first day! I also finished weeding the 300’s. I cleared four shelves of books and I hated pulling the fables section. 398.2’s. Some of them are so good, but hadn’t been checked out at all in 20 years and some others only once or twice. Got them all withdrawn and put in the back. I think I have to do the Everybody books too. Not happy about that one either. Filled out a survey on PBIS and how I felt it was going. Most of our kids are great/good kids. There are some who are disruptive and I think about how I would feel as a student with a disruptive classroom. I wouldn’t do very well. I think a lot of our disruptive students are acting out for things that we can’t help them with at school. They need a deeper and more meaningful way to be counseled than what we can give them and help them find that purpose in their lives. It’s hard.

Ready to Sell!

Got the cases all moved into place and ready for students to look at all the awesome books! I do have some stuff in my office, but there are four cases out by the big wall and one by my office as well. I took a picture of the stuff in my office and taped it up on the first case so they could see what was in there and ask to go in. Got the rest of the boxes catalogued and then put the books out on the tables and managed to squeeze it onto just two tables. We had classes in all day to check in/out and they were all excited to see the book fair getting ready. Fun to watch them and hear them go 'oh! Look! The book fair is here!' Made posters for a teacher and laminated them today. Left work but had to stop at the bank to get change and at Walmart to buy lock ties to hang up the book fair tarp sign in the morning. Hoping to make enough money to buy some chairs and other furniture.

Scholastic is here!!

I was not really expecting them so soon, but I read through my emails this morning and there it was, March 11th delivery date! Aiii! Carumba! I had about an hour to decide where I’d put everything and then they were here! I love the Scholastic Truck with Clifford on it - makes me smile! Put the carts over in the old computer lab, unloaded all the boxes on top into my office. I pulled out the new terminal - very swanky and touch screen and impressive! Then I decided I really needed to train on that thing! It is very different from the old one! But since I had done the training with the online workshop, it wasn’t too hard. Nor do I make it too hard! I’m pretty easy peasy. There are a few things that are crazy, but most of it was good. I started opening up the boxes too and writing out what was in them so when I pack up I’ll know where to put the unsold books. A busy day, and I’ll set up things tomorrow.

We combined our regular meeting with our pathway this morning. More later, maybe ;)

100's & 300's

Spent a lot of time today working on my weeding schedule. 100's and 300's in non-fiction. Put a couple of books on my list.  Also weeded some fiction,  R's to Z's. I have three carts in my office to withdraw. More books to box up, oh my. I found one book published in 1978! That's the oldest one I think I've found. Most were from the 90's. No longer appropriate for our kids. Great issues, but time to move on.

Talking Crime

Had classes in all day as I book talked the selections on crime. It was fun to have classes in and interacting with students all day as they chose books and just had conversations. After they were done I put away all the non-fiction books and quite a few of the fiction books. A great day and there was lovely snow flakes here and there all day out the windows. Made me happy!

Crime & Excel

I have a teacher coming in tomorrow to check in and out books and talk about their trial they are doing. I pulled a cart of books with crime/lawyer/judge/murder and we'll see how that goes! I did both function and non-fiction. Had my STEAM kids in today and decided I really need to make an excel spreadsheet of them. My little graph paper attendance sheet just wasn't cutting it anymore! A good day, looking forward to tomorrow and classes in all day.

Seeds & Discards

I had our Industrial Tech teacher ask if he could bring me the discard book cart I had put up there earlier this year. Every Friday he insists his students read and sending them to the library was quite the task for some of them to undertake, so we decided that discarded books were good. They'd have books to read and if they disappeared, we didn't care. So I spent time this morning making a new cart of books and going through the books that were on the cart. A few were current library books and I checked them in, some belonged to teachers (their name and room number were on them). It took awhile but we got them a whole new cart. I had found some System 44 resources and let the teacher know I had them and she was very excited about that! So we took them up to her today. Did a lot of student password resets. Since Friday is grading day a lot needed to know what their current grades are and couldn't access them, so I got them reset and made sure they could get into that program. Lots of copy machine help today and loading paper. Helped set up the library with Mrs. M for her Socratic lesson plan today. The students were really amazing for that! A good end to the day! My son had brought me some seeds from his gardening classes and I took all the rest of the packets up to the staff room this morning and let people know they were there and free for the taking. They were all gone when I went back up this afternoon! Yeah! Inch by inch and row by row....

Friday, March 1st

One of the things I did today, went through a couple of our math manipletives to put out for our students to work with. We have boxes and boxes of these and they just sit without being used, so I decided it would be something some of our students would love to just play with during lunches. I had baggie after baggie to unload, find boxes for and it will be fun to see how much they work with them. The wooden geometric ones in the middle I found in amongst the LA resources in the back room of the student store. They have gotten used, and we'll see how they go! Other than that, a regular day of putting away books and helping students.
