A Friday

Was a good day today, we had six classes in to check out books! That always makes the day go by fast! I love helping find books and giving suggestions! Packed up another box of surplus books, I now have 40 waiting. Got in the pallets today so will let Garten know on Monday that I will have them ready to be picked up. Had both lunches in, but no MakerSpace or Raspberry Pi’s. I spent some time this morning cleaning up the MakerSpace from the week. It was a great day. Had to leave early because of my cardiac rehab, but only two more to go I decided. Two weeks worth of data should be good enough I figure!

Baby Yoda

Isn’t he cute? I used the book ‘The Strange Case of Origami Yoda’ to make him, but I added the brown robe and made bigger ears! I did it during my first break, and then I took him out during each passing time to watch the students go by. He made a lot of kids smile 😊, so worth it for that! He will go to his new home tonight, you can see he’s on his way! I had a lot of students in today getting their passwords reset, and I needed to help a lot of aides in using the copier. I packed up one box of surplus books, and requested pallets for my Garten pick-up, hopefully in the next week or so. Got in three boxes of books from my last order! I love it when new books come in!! I inventoried them and started to get them ready to go out. Had both lunches in, so put everything out, and after lunches put them all back. I had to leave early for my rehab today. I didn’t take Baby Yoda into rehab, but he did come home and let me take a few pictures.

The Last List

I worked on my last order list of new books for the year. I put away books today from my areas, and had both lunches in. Did a bit of laminating. Don’t feel like writing much today.

Knitting

I have one of my kids who keeps asking me to show him how to knit, but I didn’t know how! So I pulled out some of the knitting needles I have and some yarn and pulled up a YouTube video! And I did it! I got it done! Well, it’s not done yet, but I worked on it here and there throughout the day, but I did bring it home to do during The Voice tonight. My hubby loves it, so we watch together. I checked all my books that I had repaired Friday, and a lot of them were ready to go back out there. Some weren’t! So they went back on the shelf. Had both lunches in today, so I had to pull out the MakerSpace cart and put out all four Raspberry Pi carts and the puzzle with the wobble chairs. Then at the end of lunch I put it all away. I signed up to help out with the bond work that will start at our school next school year since it includes the library. I left all the notes from the day at work! So maybe I’ll have to add tomorrow!

Wed, Thurs, and Friday Compilation!

Or maybe not! I can’t really remember. I’ll do a spot for all three days and kind of whirlwind it! I got the cart with the Oregon Focus math books. I pulled off the ones that are on the surplus list and put the others on a shelf for later. We also worked on what to bring up at our next meeting for LMA’s. I threw out a few suggestions, and hopefully some of that will be good to discuss. I also worked on my last book order. It takes awhile to go through lists and see what books might be good for my kids. I sent out an email for a set of non-fiction graphic novels on teen issues. I got one in and one of my students asked me for the next one. So I think it’ll be a great series. Boxed up more surplus books. I had to leave on Friday early for my first rehab meeting. I might think of something later. And I might even remember to put them in here! I remembered I did book repair stuff on Friday so it could set all weekend.

Four Day Week

I love that I get another short week! And not because of my heart issues! Got the library all opened up for the week. Got the computers all up and running. Spent some time permanently deleting out my trash file. I got 1,200 old emails gone! That clears up space for sure! I sent our principal my rehab schedule and we set a time to talk. Then I also sent her my old powerpoint slide show of what I wanted done for the library during our bond work that should start this summer.  She thought I had great timing to send that! I had no idea! Thanks brain for decided to do that today! I also sent her another email on some technology that ended up in the library. We decided that I will just take sick pay for the hour to leave early for my rehab. It starts Friday, then Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday for the next four weeks. She loved my Powerpoint and I will be on the task force for the bond work to be done at Leslie. She also went over the technology I had, and we got rid of headphones to teachers, the projector back to the PE department and one of the PE teachers also took a printer that was up for grabs! The old keyboard, mouse, monitor and hard drive will head to technology. I also sent an email to our drama teacher to see if he’d like to use our green screen equipment I have. I cleaned up the extra MakerSpace stuff we have and put it on the shelves in the back back room so the table in the textbook room is now free and clear! I had a good A lunch, but B lunch, a group of boys have been coming in that really don’t belong here. Today they took a glue bottle, took off the cap, unscrewed the lid and put it upside down on a piece of paper on the MakerSpace cart. That’s it, I am done with them! Put away books, did a bit of laminating. A very busy Tuesday!

Dance Time

Today we had the Valentine Dance after school. Amazingly enough the students weren’t too bad today, with candy and all. After being gone yesterday for two medical appointments, it was nice to be back at work today! I put away all my books, and I lost an aide yesterday! I’m not sure why yet, but I ended up putting away her books as well. I finally took down the snowflakes from the windows and the social studies frames on Native American issues. I met my lovely parent who went to the Scholastic meeting in my stead and she is really sweet and a go getter! I’m hoping the fair will be a great success! I boxed up a couple of boxes of withdrawn books today and checked on one of the titles I wasn’t quite sure about. There was also a packet of book pockets, date due slips and check out cards for some of the Junior Library Guild books that had come in! I asked my office about them and they were like, ‘oh no! Those didn’t get processed! Send them back!’ But two had already been checked out! One was back, and I wrote back to say they appeared to be fine. All I needed was to stamp them! I gave them the titles, and they said to go ahead and stamp them and that would be fine! So I did. Then sent the extra pieces back to the LMSS. I had three books to send to other schools. And I got some candy myself today. A good day!

Best A Lunch Ever!

They did so good today! All in control, perfect noise level, didn’t have to redirect any of them. Ah, bliss! Had my first period aide who put away all the geography books I brought over yesterday! Great job C! Submitted my award book order today. Sent an email with a composite of Scholastic stuff to my parents who are going to help me out. Cleaned up the MakerSpace cart and got that ready to go today. Had both lunches in with MakerSpace and the Raspberry Pi carts. And the puzzle. A lunch did superb, and B lunch was a bit off. I cleaned up the back counter where the MakerSpace projects were and cleaned it all out except for one nice going crochet project. I put away all the non-fiction books that had been sitting there all week. I talked to the lady who will be in for me tomorrow. Cleaned up the library since we are having a meeting of Willamette Academy parents in tonight. Really picked up the shelves and displayed more books. Put everything away from lunches. Cleaned up all the 3D pen filaments.

LMSS Day

Well, I was hoping for a whole day, but I was done a little around 11! Drats! But I got it all done. The two pallets that got sent down got all sorted. I had to withdraw all the science boxes, separate out the boxes of CD’s, and I found one of the books in the boxes had transparencies in it, so I separated out those as well and boxed them separately. Then I had to rebox everything, write ‘discarded books’ on them and tape them shut. Then I used the extra boxes (since they only were about half full, I could put two and a bit more in a single box since they are just going away) and load them with the Algebra books we had to get rid of. I ended up taking back the Geography Alive, only about 9 boxes, so I just got them loaded into my car and took them back to Leslie. Got there around the middle of A lunch. After lunches, the custodian brought me the blue cart and I drove down and around, and backed up to the doors and we off loaded the boxes onto the cart and into the library. A good days work. I worked on the Award Books order going. I already have so many! It was a good day, got a lot done!

Newsletter

Today I worked on the newsletter info for the Scholastic book fair. I gathered information from all the emails I got sent from last week. I ordered a new sign to replace the one I had to throw away last fair. Someone/bodies ripped it off the fence and I was so upset that someone would ruin something to me that is sacred!! Scholastic should be sacred! I also sent out an email to all our Language Arts teachers that I will match purchases up to $50 of books with my pool of Scholastic dollars. We had six classes in today checking out books. I love it when I find a book that a student is like ‘oh, yeah!’ One of my favorite things! Had A lunch in, but not B lunch since I had a class in. Had an aide change from 4th to 6th period. It was a busy day! Love it when the library is busy!

Trip Home

I realized today about half way through first period that I had forgotten to take my new medication this morning. Only a week out and I forgot. Another reminder on my phone! I had a class in for a book talk and something Ms. C said got me to go, ‘ah, oh....!’ So after they left, I had to get another teacher’s aide out of the library and I ran home (luckily it’s close) and yes, I did forget! I counted pills to make sure! Then headed right back and got back right as first period passing was happening! That was quick! I had picked to go back to LMSS on Tuesday, and after I let my principal know, a teacher that was supposed to come in on Monday said they’d be coming in on Tuesday. Oh no. She may work it out to still come in on Monday, I hope so. I worked pretty steady on the new books today. Had third and seventh period books talks and they actually checked out quite a few of the books I talked about! That always makes me happy. Had both lunches in and I may just let students play with the MakerSpace who can use it in a responsible fashion. They really do not know how to clean up, or use the materials wisely. Some boys were just using tons of the 3D pen filament to make a tower. Like just a mound of filament. When I said I wasn’t going to buy anymore, one quipped that he’d buy some and bring it in. Right..... Got everything shut down for the weekend, and almost done with another book for more book talks. All in all, a good week and I did all five days! Ha!

Saying Goodbye

I almost got all the hardback books ready to head out into the wide world of Leslie. I have classes coming in tomorrow, so I was looking at some of these to put in a book talk for Read 180 classes. Had both lunches in. Decided that I’d probably go over to LMSS on Tuesday or Wednesday. Did some laminating again today. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with my Scholastic rep today to get some things ready for the upcoming book fair. Had both lunches in. 6th period was quiet today and I said goodbye to one of my favorite people who is off to another career. That was hard, and I will miss them very much.

Wednesday the 5th

Played with all my new books today. Got them all checked in and started to get a few of them out there. Told my aides they got first pick of the new books, and a couple of them took me up on it. So I finished them up and they got checked out. I emailed with my office and my principal about the books down at LMSS and took off after the school day was over to head over there and check out what was going on. Yes, there was stuff all over the place. There were books that can be just boxed up and put on the Garten surplus, and others that need to come back to Leslie. Some of them can’t be withdrawn yet. So I will need to go over there for a day and get that all straightened out. Did have both lunches in again today.

Tuesday the 4th

Got too late last night! I got the shelf sections set for the aides today and had them start to pick the section they would like to keep up. I shelved the books I do and and cleaned up all the books that are scattered all over in the non-fiction section. Had both lunches in today, so got that all set up. Had my aide work on cleaning the tables and sweeping the floor in the OCL area. They did a great job. Found books for my book talk during 7th. I had four books and three of them got checked out, ka-Ching!! Half my aides were gone today. Got a call about two pallets were delivered to LMSS from Leslie and it took me a bit to realize that these were books from the area back behind the student store. I had noticed they were gone, but thought they were just in a room or closet somewhere and I’d get back to them. Well, no one asked me, and they were taken over there. So I asked my principal if I could go over tomorrow after the students are out and see what’s over there and what we are going to have to do about it. I did a ton of laminating after school and huzzah! I got in about nine boxes of new books!! I didn’t quite get them all unpacked, just trying to be careful with my arm this week from the angiogram. But excited to get working on them tomorrow!!

New Heart

Came back in today, after the docs finding 3 blockages, 70,80 and 95% and doing an angiogram stent 32mm long to cover them all. Wow. That really kind of freaked me out, but so much better than a heart attack! I was right back at work today, though I took it a bit easy! Had to troll through a bunch of emails, and wrote to my fellow LMA’s to be careful and listen to their bodies!! And why I was gone last week. I got on top of things that needed to be answered, and apologized it took so long to get back to them. Cleaned up some things, made room. Checked out the great books my substitute put out for the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Then today I had my aides work on making some ‘barbed wire’ with our poster paper after I had figured out what I wanted. It turned out much better than this poor picture. I straightened up some books that were all over. During lunches they wanted to use the MakerSpace, but it was a mess. So I told them no, but then B lunch they offered to straighten it all up, so I told them to go for it, and they did! I was so impressed with them! Way to go students! I got the big TV out for the meeting after school today. Helped students with the copier machine. Checked in and out books, being sure I didn’t pick up more than five pounds with my right arm.
